Dahlia's Fall Sessions

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Hello all!  Hope your summer has been glorious.  Mine has been very
eventful and a bit stressful, but I have been able to accomplish a lot.
Here is some information about my classes which are just around the corner: PRIVATE LESSONS are now available at Dahlia’s home studio in Mountlake Terrace (near Lynnwood).  Please contact Dahlia for information. Dahlia@DahliaDance.com

FREMONT LOCATION:
New 6-Week Session
September 3rd – October 13th

Beginning Basics:
Wednesdays  6:15-7:30
Dahlia’s Beginning basics for Egyptian belly dance includes learning proper technique, isolations, basic footwork, combinations, identifying rhythms, as well as strength-building warm-ups and stretches with muscle anatomy. Dahlia breaks down each movement with precision and ease.  Learning Egyptian styling and elegance is comprehensible and fortifying.

Intermediate Choreography:
Wednesdays  7:45-9:00
Dahlia will expand your dance repertoire through a new choreography to a modern Egyptian pop song by Nancy Ajram – Egypt’s most popular female artist today.  This choreography is exciting, sassy, and incredibly fun (Previous understanding of the basic 3/4 shimmy is encouraged but not required.) The CD will be available through the VDP studio store.

Leslie Rosen, Bumbershoot and New Class Session

Friday, August 18th, 2006

There is NO Pyramid Lounge in September but you can catch Leslie from Raqs Serpentine dancing if you come out to Bumbershoot!

The Fire Birds of Paradise present “Bennu,” the rebirth of the soul of the sun god RA from the heart of the Firepod, a 25 foot steel installation bursting with musical flames. They will be at Bumbershoot, September 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, downtown at the Seattle Center fountain at dusk. The Fire Birds wield metal and flame while perched on stilts, plumed in ornate and exotic costuming. They have combined a wide variety of movement and dance.

The performance art troupe was founded in 2002 as a special feature for the Spheres of Transformation installation at Burning Man.

Originally conceptualized by visionary artist Justin Rhodda, the Fire Birds were inspired by ancient Egyptian mythology. Their blazing metal wings are aluminum, poured from a single mold and brought to life by metal work artist Rusty Oliver of Hazard Factory

ABOUT SONIA: Born and raised in Los Angeles, Sonia is a bellydancer of Mexican descent who began dancing at the age of 20. She started her training with classical ballet, jazz, and modern dance. For 3 years Sonia has performed with Ballet Folklorico del Pacifico under the direction of Adriana Astorga-Gainey and Jose Vences, former dancer of the world famous Ballet Folklorico de Mexico. Sonia has also taught and performed Latin dances since 1997, thanks to friend Alex DaSilva, internationally known salsa instructor, choreographer and performer based in Los Angeles. She has been dancing with Polynesian Paradise since 1994, with director/founder Akemi Welsh, who happened to give Sonia her first glimpse at the world of Middle Eastern dances. Fusing all styles and levels of dance, Sonia now spends her time teaching private and group lessons in the Los Angeles area and performs worldwide. Sonia dances because it brings her much happiness, and through her efforts hopes that one day the rest of the world will look at this beautiful art form with an open mind and an open heart.
