Raqs Serpentine presents:
The Pyramid  Lounge
Seattle’s monthly bellydance gathering celebrating music & dance
Monday Feb 4th
Featuring
Elizabeth Dennis

We popped the champagne and kissed the old year good! Let’s all
awaken with renewed passion and joy. Come watch with new eyes
these moments of renewed commitment by: Twilight Maqsuum and
director Tayissa Blue, Amira Mahaela, Setsuna, and Bella Jovan

Featured dancer Elizabeth Dennis, has been belly dancing for 17
years, because it is both sensual and powerful.  Her fascination
with dance started as a child. But the western dance forms just
weren’t quite right for her. She took up Yoga, Flamenco, and
Belly Dance in while living in the town of Byron Bay, Australia
after seeing her first glittering belly dancer on stage draped
with two huge boa constrictors. She knew she had found what she
had been looking for. She began fusing Flamenco, Ballet and East
Indian dance with  Belly Dance soon after. Feeling that these
more exotic movement forms suited her better, she created
theatrical versions of these forms, for theaters and festivals.
Over the years she has created her own exquisite and expressive
style.

Elizabeth is a treasure and an inspiration.

SSSD Workshops in Seattle with Sabriye Tekbilek Feb 2/3

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Renée Drellishak and the Suhaila Salimpour School of Dance
present

Workshops with Sabriye Tekbilek

Daughter of renowned Turkish musician, “Haci” Ahmet Tekbilek,
and Lisa Djeylan, pioneer of Belly Dance in Sweden, Sabriye
(www.sabriyetekbilek.com/) was a member of both the Suhaila
Dance Company and Bal Anat and is an authorized instructor at
the Suhaila Salimpour School of Dance. Sabriye was featured in
the original run of Sheherezade, as well as in the videos for
Bal Anat and Suhaila’s Bellydance Fitness Fusion series. Since
2005 Sabriye has lived, toured and performed in the Middle East,
and will be teaching in Seattle during one of her rare trips
back to the United States. Don’t miss this opportunity!

Sabriye will be teaching two workshops:

Saturday, February 2, 2:30pm – 5:30pm. Turkish 9/8 technique
and Bal Anat’s sassy, folkloric karshlima choreography. Bring
finger cymbals!

Sunday, February 3, 11am – 2pm. Suhaila Salimpour Format. This
all-levels workshop will cover conditioning, technique, and
drills from the Suhaila Salimpour format, the format that so
many of today’s superstar dancers and instructors (you know who
they are!) credit for their ability to layer and isolate like
nobody’s business! This technique can be applied to tribal,
cabaret, Egyptian, and fusion styles of bellydance. Come learn
the real thing, and be prepared to sweat! **Continuing education
credits are available for dancers who are certified in the
Suhaila Salimpour format.

In the paper& on the radio!

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Hi Everyone!

After our October Oasis Market performance, Princess Tori
and I received several positive comments. (Thanks again
to Zeeta for asking us to dance.)

I sent out media releases for our upcoming performance
at the Lynnwood Kalia restaurant this Sunday, Jan. 13 (we’ll
perform our Oasis Mkt. Scarf Dance). The Enterprise
newspaper asked for larger photos, so I knew we’d be in one
or more Enterprise editions, but the Park Dept. notified me
that we’re also in the Edmonds Beacon!

And we’re one of the Beacon’s advertising tools — we’re a
Podcast! The Beacon has Local News in Audio via the Americast
Network (see the microphone at the top center first page).

To hear a one minute story, go to http://www.edmondsbeacon.com/
Click the down button next to “GET LOCAL” and select
“BellyDancing with Grandma.” You’ll hear it after a five-second
advertisement.

Or go to Americast’s home page, http://www.americast.net/
to hear the same story. On the Left side of the page, click
Washington under the list of states, then “read more” under
Edmonds Beacon heading. Bellydancing with Grandma is story #3.

The news story was taken completely from my media release and
the health benefits I list in my signature (I had a feeling
somebody would use it).

To read the text, go to
http://www.edmondsbeacon.com/localnewscommunity.html
(It’s still my release, but tweaked a bit.)

My class, Dancing with Grandma (or Mom), is still in the
planning stage. It will be advertised in the Edmonds Park
Dept.’s CRAZE magazine, but if you would like to receive the
information when it’s available, please e-mail me at
shamandura1@aol.com.
