BlankLynnwood Kaila was very innovative last Sunday, Jan 11, a
creative varied mix in the line up of Goth, tribal / priestess,
Victorian Goth tribal and Egyptian cabaret.
First a gypsy tale by Marion Moat, and then a dance piece, fresh
from the show, at the spice box in the Heaven Nightclub, Marion
presented, Goth tribal fusion dance, ritual priestess, the dance
was based on a story containing elements of wind, sun, moon,
water, earth, air spirit people and primitive people on a hunt.
A tiny sample of the dance movements, tell of climbing a pyramid
in the hot sun and in the evening moons glow, taking refreshment
from the spiritual water, creating energy to build a temple and
bringing light to the worlds peoples.
Visually Marion redesigned her black and silver costume of black
like leather slashed pants, bra, and gloves trimmed with sliver
zippers and set off with a mirrored long back fringe belt,
mystery was created with a veil headpiece that framed the
flowing arm movements with liquid silver lame.
Second performance also in black and silver, was a wonderful high
energy male female duet, Brishen and Leona; in a creatively
designed eclectic Goth /Victorian tribal costumes. Both costumes
were wonderful and I will take the time to give a taste of
Brishen’s costume; He entered with long black flowing locks, a
black body stocking under a high cropped multi colored weaved,
Victorian split tail coat, the front lapels boosted a charming
boutonniere and decorating down the front, Brishen had created
fimo buttons with impish faces, and around the back, the jacket
tails just reached the top of his multi fabric, layered hip belt.
Not enough space to detail Leona’s costume suffices to say they
matched wonderfully and your just have to see them to satisfy
your curiosity. The duet have been dancing together for two
years now, they originally hailed from eastern Washington where
they both belong to the same two troupes, the Bare Naked Bellies
and the Sultana Dancers.
Brishen pronounced (Brashawn) has just recently moved up to the
Seattle area to pursue his education in psychology with an
emphasis on Art Therapy. Belly dancing is what he uses to keep
him sane amidst the torrent of exams and research papers.
Note* to those producing dance shows the couple or as a solo
Brishen, are available for bookings they offer a theatrical
professional level of dance, inclusive offering all the varied
styles of belllydance. Contact Brishen at venusofmars@yahoo.com
Next was Zulaika; giving us her heart in her eyes in a blue
beaded dress, she danced a fast paced, many layered Egyptian
cabaret piece that appeared intricately choreographed but was
impromptu!. Zulaika has studied, taught, and performed Middle
Eastern dances for over 30 years. She is from Minneapolis where
she was a founding member of Jawaahir Dance Company and taught
beginner through advance dance students at the Cassandra School.
In her quest for authenticity and cultural aesthetics, Zulaika
has traveled nationally and internationally to study with master
teachers and has made several study trips to Egypt, Lebanon, and
Morocco. She loves the joyous, celebratory music and dance of
these cultures and sharing it with others. Zulaika currently
teaches in Bellevue. Her website is www.pcauch.com.
Last with a costume change was Brishen’s solo a rousing strong
vibrant piece, his costume jacket in fabric and style reminded
me of Genghis Kong with a definite oriental flare to the extended
line of the shoulders. The audience whopped and applauded
thoroughly energized.
