Dear friends,
I am initiating a new regularly irregular series of events on some
Sunday evenings throughout the year at the lovely Motion and Rest
Studio in Ballard. In March we celebrated Persian New Year and
this coming Sunday we will gather together to discover the
cultures of the West Sahara.
West Sahara Evening, Sunday June 28th, 7:30-9:30 pm (Doors open

The community song and dance evenings will be an opportunity
for us to come together to sing, dance simple dances and play
some silly games. It’s an opportunity to bring your family and
friends and share the celebration of collective voice and
shared movement. Each evening will have a theme. This month’s
theme is the Cultures of the West Sahara. The West Sahara was
formerly a Spanish colony and then divided by the countries of
Morocco and Mauretania, not with out considerable conflict
which is ongoing and unresolved to this day. The peoples of
the West Sahara, the Sahraoui and the Tuareg have an amazing
culture and beautiful music and dance. Probably the most well
known of them is the trance and blessing ritual called Guedra.
Much less known are the social dances of the area. In this
evening we will learn about the cultural and political history
of the area with a slide show, watch some dance and music clips
and learn to clap some of the patterns and movements used in
the dances.

Lake Oswego, ORE. – June 12, 2009 – Belly Dance Power and Passion
Live Show, produced by local dancer, community member and Miss
Belly Dance USA, Sedona Ruiz, is coming to Lake Oswego for one
night only on Monday, June 29.
The show will feature 10 world renowned and internationally
acclaimed belly dance performing artists including: Belly
Dancer of the Universe, Dahlia; Las Vegas Belly Dance
Entertainer of the year, Rachel George; Belly Dancer of the
Universe Group Champions, Belly Dance Soulfire; Miss Belly
Dance USA, Sedona Ruiz; New York’s Darshan; East Coast Belly
Dance Champion, Ruby, Magidah, Shara, Alimah; Costa Rica’s
Yemaya; plus special guests, the legendary Delilah with Seattle’s

Funds go toward rent but mostly to the musicians who have
selflessly paid the dancers before them selves for the past 6
weeks. In fact they each made only zero to $20 play all night
and paid each dancer $80 for one performance. Lets here it for
the gentleman!
Note:VDP has been offering alot of free belly dance opportunities
and yet no one has much taken advantage of them. That means dancers
value our studio and insist on paying anyways which we are so
humbly greatfull! If a dancer is really in need we do have some
opportunities at VDP.
Also VDP has added additional stage lighting that makes the
studio very nice for shows!
