Cues & Tattoos is just around the corner!

The Northwest has always been ahead of the game in the arts.  We can claim Hendrix and Nirvana for starters. Rainn Wilson and Adam West hail from our neck of the woods. And did you know famous burly star Gypsy Rose Lee was from our fair city of Seattle?  In short, we have no shortage of talent and creativity (pst, it’s in the water!)

So it should come as no surprise that Seattle would also play host to pioneers in bellydance, and that some of our own incredible dance sisters would put on one of the biggest and best tribal bellydance festivals in the world: Cues & Tattoos!  For the 5th year, Troupe Hipnotica is throwing a mega-shin-dig which focuses on improvisational tribal bellydance.  It is comprised of three days of workshops, an instructor’s showcase, and multiple participant performance showcases, not to mention SHOPPING galore!

Ever hear of a little troupe named FatChance Bellydance? Perhaps the name Carolena Nericcio rings a bell?  They are in attendance every year, dancing and teaching packed workshops.  This year’s festival also boasts 14 other fantabulous instructors, including Mimi Fontana of Manhattan Tribal, Kajira Djoumahna of Black Sheep Bellydance (and producer of the also-popular festival, Tribal Fest), and other local NW tribal and fusion gurus such as Portland dancer Colette Todorov of Scarlett Thistle, and recently Bellingham-transplanted Samantha Riggs of Portico Dance Company.

There are even some fun perks you may not have known about. Like did you know that you can actually get tattooed at Cues & Tattoos? It’s true! There is a tattoo booth set up in the vending area, so start sketching now.  And did you know there is an afterparty on Saturday night, hosted by the ladies of local troupe Samaya Tribe? Yep!  And did you know that this year there are even opportunities to take private lessons with the dancers and teachers of FatChanceBellydance?  Hurry and sign up before it’s too late to secure your chance to get up close and personal with Wendy, Sandi, and the rest of the talented OG chicas.

There are still tickets left to the shows, and spots left in some amazing workshops with the movers and shakers of the tribal and fusion bellydance world. Hope to see you there!
